What
would a personal website be without the obnoxious pre-requisite "About
Me" ego-wank? We all like to think someone cares, right? My name
is Diane, I'm 26, and I live in Canadia. Eh? I'm technically single
but I'm very happy this way, and I'm definitely not lonely. It affords
me some emotional space and liberty I sorely need after a decade of
stifling interpersonal messes. I have friends and family who mean
more to me than anything. They keep me grounded.
I work in a toy
store, and yes it really is as awesome as it sounds. It's a small
store, catering mostly to specialized collectibles. We also have more
mainstream toys for younger kids. When I'm not at work there, I can
usually be found doing moderator training work on Gaia
Online, doing the occasional freelance design contract, playing
with my dolls (and yes, I really am 26),
or behind my camera.
I'm relatively tall, about 5'10, and weigh around the area of 155lbs
at the time of writing this. I say at the time because I recently
suffered a fairly serious illness that essentially resulted in my
stomach "forgetting" how to digest food, and I'm still unable
to eat normally so I'm losing weight at a fairly drastic pace. I'm
getting better though! My measurements are 34F, 29, 40, for those
of you who care about this sort of thing. I've got dark brown hair
and darker brown eyes, to the point of looking black in most cases.
I generally wear a pair of frameless glasses, unless i"m reading
or on the computer in which case I wear a pair with thick-ish navy
blue frames. If, for whatever reason, you're curious as to my appearance,
there are photos of me here.
In an effort to make this page a little more interesting than the
usual "About Me" blatherfest, a little while ago I asked
some friends to ask me interesting questions. I've omitted the ones
previously answered on this page, or the ones that contextually make
no sense to people who don't already know me. So now here's:
A List Of Things You Probably Didn't Know About Diane (and didn't
really care about either).
1) What's your name or other online aliases?
RL name is Diane, Moonblossom (or Moony) is pretty much the
only online alias I use now. If Moonblossom is taken, I will use a
bastardized weeaboo Japanese translation of it, "Tsuki no hana"
which means "flower of moon", basically.
2) Likes?
Kimonos, cats, silly toys, pretty dolls, skinny men (er,
man?), interesting conversations, good friends, trashy underwear,
learning new things, people who open my mind to new ideas.
3) Dislikes?
Gropers, molesters, dirty old men, people who invade my personal
space, people who always need to be the centre of attention, live
chickens, Kate Winslet (no idea why, she just bugs the crap out of
me), pseudointellectuals, MySpace, people who refuse to change their
minds.
4) Favorite ice-cream?
Cherry Garcia from Ben & Jerry's, "After Eight"
chocolate mint, Bailey's Irish Cream and Mayan Chocolate from Haagen-Dazs.
5) Cookie?
My dad's "Sleeping Bear S'Mores". Peanut butter
cookie topped with Marshmallow Fluff and coated in melted chocolate,
for store-bought it would be mint Monacos from Pepperidge Farm.
6) Colour?
Purple or red.
7) Do you enjoy long walks on the beach?
I don't enjoy long walks anywhere. I've got bad legs and
a bad back, and they make me patently uncomfortable. I do, however,
like lying down on the beach and being a lazy douche. Especially if
someone is bringing me disgusting novelty drinks with umbrellas in
them and a disproportionately high booze content.
8) Do you have a particular art style you love? Why?
Art Nouveau, the works of Alphonse
Mucha in particular. I just love the natural, curvaceous aesthetic,
the warm colours they generally use, the organic qualities. I find
it very pretty and ornate but also very soothing.
9) Musical dirty secret...as in what horrible crap do you listen to
that you would be ashamed to normally let people know you listen to?
Um, I have a copy of Britney Spears doing a cover of "I
Love Rock n' Roll" that I'm rather fond of...
10) Have you ever lived outside of your home country?
Nope. Never even lived outside of this city.
11) When it boils down to choosing between soup and a sandwich, which
would you choose? The soup would be a favorite, and so would the sandwich,
but you can only have one.
Sammich! I'm a sucker for a good sandwich. The only thing
I remotely miss about my old job is the bocconcini and tomato on olive
bread panini from the bistro a few blocks away from the office.
12) Have you ever had any sort of criminal record?
Nope!
13) What style of socks do you wear? Plain/cute? long/short?
Usually silly/cute ankle socks. Sometimes long toe-socks. Never ever
ever plain white sport type socks.
14) If you were a mixed drink, what would be in you?
In the spirit of creativity I hoped this excersize would bring, I
did a bit of Googling, and discovered a liqueur known as Baja Luna.
So I present to you, the Moonblossom:
1 oz Baja Luna (tequila and blackberry cream liqueur)
Dash of rosewater
I'm not sure if this sounds disgusting or sublime...
15) Favorite pizza topping?
Mushrooms or extra cheese.
16) How would you sound with a mouth full of crabs?
HABLA
HEEBLEY HEEBLA HA.
17) Do you have a favorite movie? What is it?
I don't know if I have one specific favourite movie. It varies depending
on my mood. There are a few movies I can just watch again and again,
no matter how many times I've seen them, though. Those being Edward
Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Willy Wonka and the
Chocolate Factory, Pirates of the Carribbean (first one), and lately
also Boondock Saints and Lucky Number Slevin.
18) What would be the best vacation ever for you and why?
Anywhere where I could spend good quality time with someone I care
about and not have to worry about doing anything. A cruise or a tropical
island would be nice. I've had too many trips where I ended up running
around like a chicken with it's head cut off because I wanted to "do
stuff", and it's just not comfortable or relaxing.
19) Geekiest thing you've ever done?
Oh god, where to start? I played the euphonium (it's a small tuba
- look it up) for a period in high school, I had an imaginary iguana
named Victor Hugo when I was little, I was the president of my college
anime club for a while. I'm a moderator on a fucking anime/roleplay
message board community thing, for pete's sake.
20) Favourite superhero?
Not really big on superhero-type comics (I prefer weird character-driven
comics, mostly Vertigo stuff), but I guess Wolverine. I like his personality
21) What's your favorite genre for movies, television, and
books? Can be the same or different.
Fantasy, but not high fantasy. Not full-on LotR level, the
kind that gets overly ponderous. More like real world shifted slightly
sideways into magic. Also science fiction, but not quite as much.
22) What was your favorite board game as a kid?
Trivial Pursuit! Still is :D
23) Do you speak any other languages, either mediocre or fluently?
French, fully fluently. I've had people think English was my second
language on occasion.
24) If you could bring back anything from a past decade --
fashion, entertainment, whatever -- what would it be?
EIGHTIES BIG HAIR!!
But seriously, I think I'd have to say the general aesthetic of the
twenties. Art deco buildings, flapper dresses.
25) Have you ever protested against/for anything or particpated
in another similar political activity?
Back when Quebec was having referendums to split from Canada, I attended
the "NO" side rallies. I also used to regularly march in
Ca Marche, a walkathon for AIDS awareness, and went to Take Back the
Night a few times with the activist club in my high school. This was
before my back and knees went all to shit on me, though. I've also
attended gay pride marches, but from the sidelines.
26) What was your favorite class in school (any grade)?
Any art-style classes.
27) Chocolate or Vanilla?
Chocolate, baybee!
28) Morning or Night?
Night. I'd be completely nocturnal if society let me. Left to my own
devices, I wake up around noon and turn in around three AM.
29) What character (any medium) do you most admire and why?
Henry Marchbanks Winter from the book The
Secret History, by Donna Tartt. I don't really know why,
but I find him captivating. He's filthy rich, but lives simply, goes
to a little college, and sticks to his books. It's hard to explain...
There are probably others, but I've been fond of him since I first
read the book nearly ten years ago.
30) If you had to spend $1,000,000 in a day, what would you buy?
I think I'd buy a condo near my folks, and pay for the utilities for
as long as I could. I love my folks and I don't want to be too far
from them, but I wouldn't mind a bit of privacy now and again.
31) If you could choose any name for yourself in real life,
what name would you want?
I've always been fond of the name Elizabeth. But I've grown to like
my name, and can't really imagine myself with any other, honestly.
32) What's your foot size?
9 1/2 wide or 10, depends on the shoe. For boots sometimes an 11.
I have big feet T_T
33) What's the one situation/experience that has changed your
view on life?
I can't say one experience has changed me overall. Everything I do
changes me slightly, so really the experience of "life"
in general is what changes my view on life.
If you have anything else you'd like to know about me, please don't
hesitate to
ask! Just be forewarned that your question might end up on this
page :D
